Before 1733, Georgia was a pine forest with no permanent European settlement. James Edward Oglethorpe brought a group of colonists from England to settle his utopian dream, Savannah. Through two military occupations, numerous yellow fever epidemics and disastrous fires and hurricanes, the citizens of this city have been able to keep current with the changes occurring in Western Architecture while retaining a distinct local flavor. | |||||||||||
